BENEATH STEEL TREADS - BUILDING AN EMPEROR'S FIST TANK COMPANY title image.

An Emperor's Fist Tank Company consists of three squadrons of three Leman Russ tanks, with one tank within each group acting as the squad's command tank, for a total of nine armored vehicles. One final tank acts as company command, bringing the total up to 10 tanks. Okay, so we needed to figure out how to arm all these tanks. We started by concentrating on just one squadron, with the thought that we'd simply repeat the specifications throughout the rest of the company.

We needed to figure out how to arm these tanks.
Hull Lascannons were agreed upon right off the bat. It just makes sense — especially for Apocalypse-sized games. However, we decided to have each squadron command tank take a heavy bolter for a little variety and to push the idea that these command tanks would be finely tuned infantry killers if need be. After some discussion on the usefulness of sponsons, the decision was made to nix sponsons for the majority of the tanks. Each squadron command tank would feature heavy bolter sponsons, but the other two tanks would have to do without. Our idea was that the squadron command tank would more or less lag behind its two tank brethren in order to take full advantage of its weaponry occasionally by coming to a full stop. Meanwhile, the other two tanks would constantly be on the move in search of targets and protecting the squadron command tank.

After the mainstay weaponry was settled upon, it was time to add some vehicle upgrades. First off, in order to help boost the armor kill ratio for each squadron, a Hunter Killer missile was chosen. After this, we once more agreed universally that every tank should have heavy armor and track guards. Squadron command tanks were upgraded with a searchlight and a pintle mounted heavy stubber to help fend off any pesky infantry. Finally the company command tank would follow suit with the squadron command tanks, but with a hull mounted Lascannon and an Improved Comm.

Below, you'll find the complete army list and company formation thus far, along with who is responsible for building and painting what.
