Well it is the last week of the painting bet and ‘Crunch Time’ has
come for most people in this challenge. Not me of course, just those poor participants
who are unable to budget their time well. I am currently in the middle of painting
a unit of Questing Knights, to give my lord some proper support. It did not feel
right having a bunch of headstrong kids as his bodyguard. Questing Knights you
ask? Why would anyone take Questing Knights now that great weapons on mounted
models are less effective? I decided to take Questing Knights simply because
not many people take them; they also re-roll failed psychology tests, but why
would I want my Lords unit to be reliable? I am also going to add symbols to
all of the Unit Champions and the other regular knights. I might even go back
and add a simple cross marking to all the Knights Errant in the army, but we
will see how I feel. I have the day off on Friday and I will be quite happy to
spend it painting. Who cares, I’m not in any rush….

It has been a little while since I wrote in about my progress, of course my progress
is that I am still done (unlike Chad). In the last couple of weeks I have not
touched my Bretonnians, this of course has nothing to do with the fact I have
spent every day working. Between Conflict Montreal and White Dwarf Day Ottawa
I have not seen much of my home, let alone my army. The army is done, but there
were changes I was hoping to make for the upcoming Paint or Die tournament. The
additional unit of Questing knight is sitting at home assembled and I still have
not found the time to even prime them.
On to the challenge, more and more participants are getting their army finished.
At last count there were 5 people finished, with over a week to spare. A big
congrats to Chad as this is his first ever army he has ever painted and it looks
great. People (mainly the poor participants in danger of failing) have been asking
me a lot of questions (very nervously I might add) with sweat pouring from their
forehead. So here are the answers to those questions.
Yes. You will have to buy all the battle forces for the winners if you fail.
I do not care if your wife will put you in the hospital. (Elaine will do much
worse if you try not to pay)
Yes. Your army must be completely done and based. It has to be to a standard
that can be played in our Hobby Centres.
No. I will not be checking the eyes on everyone of your models or other little
details. We are working on the honour system. As long as it looks to be at a
playable standard and you can honestly say it is finished then it is. Trust me
your conscience will do all the work for me.
Yes. It has to be done by Saturday Morning, not Midday, not Midnight or any other
time. If you cannot make it to the tournament you will need to provide proof
of completion that morning, either emailed pictures of your army or a signed
affidavit from a notary public.

Good news my army is now finished! This weekend I managed to put the finishing
touches on my army and I am now basking in the glow of being finished. I will
put some pictures of the army online this week so the other participants in the
contest can see that the army is indeed complete. I am happy to finally finish
and will be very happy to not paint another horse for the next while. As I had
said my colour scheme is very similar to the Black Templars one. What? Knights
on a crusade looking like Black Templars, ridiculous you say! I know, I know,
I thought it would be fitting. It also had a little to do with the fact that
an army that is half black would be easy to paint, and I know that it was (you
lazy, cheating git – ed). I did not put any symbols on my knights as the
army consists of Knights Errant and they have not yet earned a proper coat of
arms (again! – ed).
Well there you go one finished army, now I better get back to those Goblins.
Until next time.

Well, I was hoping to write this week about the glory of being done accompanied
by pictures of me basking in the glow of my newly completed army. Unfortunately
that is not the case. I had the army finished to a playable standard for the
1 000 000 point WAAAGH! on the weekend and have just been finishing off the final
details. I have a few more horses to spruce up with some additional highlights,
and I have to add another highlight to some of the armour on my Knights. All
in all they are quite minor things and there is really no excuse why I did not
get them finished. This weekend wrap things up nicely. It better, as this is
the last weekend until the deadline that I am not busy with an event. Conflict
Montreal is next weekend followed by White Dwarf Day Ottawa on Nov 19th and on
November 26th I will be traveling with the illustrious Craig Bodycote to a tournament
in Trenton. All this activity will leave me with very little time to work on
my army.
Next week, failing some massive catastrophe, I will have pictures of my entire
army, as well as pictures of me basking in the ‘doneness’ of it all.
I can then spend the rest of the weeks encouraging my fellow painting competitors
and sleeping soundly knowing that my army is done and all is well. Until next
time…

This week I have been told to take another look at the odds, Corry Laycock
claims he is a third done his army and that his odds should change. I say if
he is a third done his army at the halfway point of the challenge, then at
this rate he will be 2/3 done at the end. This should ensure that he has just
enough of his army completed to fail.
Ryan Z. or safe bet Ryan as we like to call him, says that he has everything
under control and that things are moving along smoothly. I think that “things
running smoothly” means that his loan at the bank is going through and
he will be able to afford the battle forces. Always good to plan ahead I say.
Will he fail? I don’t want to say yes, but I have already picked out
the battle force he will be buying for me.
Craig Bodycote has been whining that he has been portrayed unfairly and that
he is being singled out. Craig says that he has a lot of Dwarfs done and deserves
better odds. After careful consideration I will improve his odds, but not because
he has a lot done but because I am pretty sure his wife won’t allow him
to come home if he fails.
Chad Blackmore’s odds would also change as he is bounding through his
army, but unfortunately he finished his army. Congrats Chad.
The final change is to Paul Milson, who claims his name is actually Millson.
I am sorry that I got it wrong considering his celebrity status as the build,
paint and play guy from White Dwarf. Sorry Milhouse.
As for me, my army will be ready to be played on Saturday as part of the 1,000,000
point Waaagh! I am fielding the Bretonnians as part of a 20 000 point game
with old, crazy, Fat Gaz. The army itself is not quite finished. There are
still little details that will need to be done such as symbols, another highlight
on the armour, and eyes for all the horses. I should be able to get all this
done early next week, and my next blog should feature me speaking about the
glory of being done.
October 20, 2006
Well week 4 is upon us and I have to speak about
my painting progress. Originally I was planning to
have the entire army painted for the Million point
Waaagh!
on October 28th. This is turning out to be a complete nightmare. I am drastically
behind with everything, most of my army is in various stages of half done with
nothing being complete. Spending the last 8 days traveling out to the East Coast
and back for Conflict Halifax did not help matters any. Conflict Halifax was
a lot of fun and the players that I met out there are some of the greatest in
the country, but that is a little off topic now isn’t it. I will have pictures
online shortly of my progress and hopefully speak about the completion of the
army in just over a week.
Besides Conflict Halifax, I have been involved in a lot more gaming then usual.
With the Lunch-Hammer league running at work during lunch, and the battle of
five armies with mad old Fat Gaz, most of my free time has been spent playing
games as opposed to painting. I even have a tournament on Saturday at Gryphon
Games and Hobbies, where I am supposed to go down there and show them how things
are done. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze some painting time without completely
shunning my wife and daughter.
Well that’s it for now, off to paint or is it off to game? I really need
some free time.

Hello I am Cory Burns and I am in charge of events and the High Commissar of
the Hall Of Heroes league. When I sat down to write this I was trying to figure
out why it is that I am in this competition. I do not really need any encouragement
to get a new army done, I can easily pump out an army every couple of months.
I guess it is because I want to see others succeed; see I truly am a selfless
person.
I have always wanted to do a crusading Bretonnian force and now I finally have
an excuse to do it. I wanted to do a proper force with more knights then you
can shake a stick at. So I took the errantry list from the Storm of Chaos list
and filled out a 2,000 point list, filled to the brim with knights errant. This
is the force I envisioned, a sea of young knights heading off to bring glory
to Brettonnia and make a name for themselves. (Trust me, the fact that this army
will hit harder then a bag full of hammers had absolutely nothing to do with
my choices, for me winning
is the least important factor in a game... really!!)
So that’s it from me for this week I will reserve my comments about my
fellow competitors for next week, and more details on the tournament that I will
be winning on December 2nd.
