Hello everybody! Well, not a lot of progress has been made on the Elves. I finished
off a unit of 14 Seaguard and a Bolt Thrower. I have the crew and 10 Shadow Warriors
half painted, which leaves two Mages, 10 more Seaguard, and two Bolt Throwers
to paint. Thankfully, I have a week to myself to hunker down and get some intense
painting done.
I’ve played a few more games with my army. Of note was a monster based
Dark Elf army that I smashed into pieces. The pre-game shooting alone crippled
a Manticore and the Beastmaster. Several bow shots later and the Highborn was
a twitching wreck. Sadly, the Black Dragon passed its Monster Reaction test and
charged into combat with a thin line of Elves. Imagine the hilarity that ensued
when they fought the beast off and made it run! (Go static combat resolution!)
I also played a Tomb Kings army and managed a draw. Armies that don’t run
and raise back their troops are definitely problematic for the Seaguard. Events
of note were the three Bolt Throwers that all hit and all wounded a Bone Giant
in one round, and the miserable Tomb Swarm that failed to show up until turn
5. Anyway folks, I’m off to finish off the last bits of my army. If I have
more than a model or two to do by the next blog, you know I’m in trouble!
Wish me luck!

Yes, yes, I’ve finally got another blog written. I’ll admit, I haven’t
been working much on my Seaguard. With the Eldar codex coming out this November,
I’ve been foolishly spending some time building and painting Eldar so that
I can start gaming right away once the codex is released.
My army is pretty much fully assembled and I’ve painted my Elf Princess
on Eagle, a regiment of 14 Seaguard, a bolt thrower, my Commander, and 95% of
another unit of Seaguard. My goal is to have 1000pts painted by the weekend.
I’ve divided my army into painting chunks:
Lord, Seaguard block (14), Bolt Thrower
Commander, Seaguard block (14), Bolt Thrower
Mage, Seaguard block (10), Bolt Thrower
Mage, Shadow Warriors (10), Bolt Thrower
This will prevent me from going insane from painting too many of the same models
at once, and reward myself by throwing in a character model here and there.
I’ve played a few games with the Seaguard since my first blog. I’ve
tackled a Dogs of War army and the new Orcs and Goblins. I played the Flank Attack
scenario from the Hall of Heroes tournament package vs. the Dogs of War. Despite
only having half my army on the table, I was still able to shoot up most threatening
regiments. Let me tell you, 4 Repeater Bolt Throwers at close range vs. infantry
are gross. Some accurate cannon fire from my opponent was able to claw back some
victory points, but by the 5th turn my opponent conceded.
My game vs. the Orcs and Goblins player was surprising as he was fairly new to
Warhammer and he beat me solidly! Due to the new 24” diameter gap in the
middle of the table (new scenery deployment rules), I thought it would be a good
idea to deploy as close as possible to start shooting ASAP. Sadly, I got no hills,
which meant I had to shoot down a forest of Goblins before I could draw line
of sight to the Orcs. The Orcs then WAAAAAGHED, and I was robbed of one more
turn of shooting. The Orcs hit with brutal force, turning my thin Elven lines
into pulp. If I could go back in time, I would have redeployed in a “refused
flank” manner which would prevent the entirety of the Orc army bearing
down on me at the same time. The benefit of 20/20 hindsight; wish me luck during
this crunch time!

Hi! I’m Clarence Lee, the manager at Games Workshop Vaughan Mills. For
this painting challenge I’ve chosen to do Lothern Sea Guard (*ducks to
avoid thrown garbage*) The main reason why I’ve chosen the Sea Guard is
simple…revenge. Not too long ago a certain someone…let’s call
him C. Burns…no no no, that won’t do…how about Cory B... demolished
my Dwarfs with a Dark Elf army that contained 4 Reaper Bolt Throwers. Sickened
by his “tactical” depravity, I chose to fight fire with fire…or
Bolt Throwers with Bolt Throwers. I could only take 4 actual Repeater Bolt Throwers,
but the High Elves have access to the Bolt Thrower Bow and the Reaver Bow. Combined
with the Sea Guard pre-game round of shooting (the Master of the Mists honour)
surely nothing could out-shoot my army!
So far I’ve played half a dozen or so games with the Sea Guard, mostly
against Wood Elves. Let me tell you, Sea Guard against Wood Elves is usually
a bad match-up for the tree huggers. That pre-game round of shooting is very
rough on those low quantity-high points cost models (Wild Riders and Wardancers).
However, my opponent finally got the best of me when they switched their list
to an all Forest Spirit army. It is very hard to shoot down two Treemen and 12
Tree Kin… not to mention the 30 odd skirmishing Dryads. It’s especially
hard when everything is Immune to Psychology and never Panics! I also played
a R.A.F. Bretonnian list (lots of Pegasus Knights) and an all cavalry High Elf
list, both of which I lost to. Fast armies that hit hard are definitely the rock
to
my Sea Guard’s scissor. Anyway folks, I’m off to finish building
my army – wish me luck! |
