Wow! It's all over!
Looking back on the last two months I can say that the whole experience was a
lot of fun! It was really neat to get back into my original Warhammer army. Now
that I don't HAVE to paint, I am going ahead and doing another 1000 points, this
time of all spider riders!
For the tournament I was really tempted to change my list around, but I stuck
to the first one I had posted. Out of three games here is how it went!
1) Paul -vs- Damien Arnaud
Well, I thought no dispel scrolls might hurt me and I’ve always had a healthy
respect for Slannesh magic. I was beaten quite soundly and got to watch Grimgore
hack into own his unit quite a number of times. It was a lot of fun and we had
a number of very funny moments. Damien went on to win best general so I was able
to lick my wounds somewhat...
2) Paul -vs- Gary Parnell (Fat Gaz)
Tomb Kings chariots -vs- Grimgore? Oh yes! After a risky flee charge reation,
I watched Grimgore turn most of the army into match-wood. Gary played an excellent
game, but the night goblins nets saved the day and prevented one of my flanks
from being crushed! One of the Liche Priests managed to beat a giant n single
combat (he fell over, and she wounded him, failed his break test and squish)!
The skeleton unit champion escaped from his pants and a good laugh was had by
all! A very fun game and it made me feel a little better about the last game
we had (my poor Dark Elves and his awesome Empire)!
3) Paul -vs- Chad Shewman
I played Chad back in a hall of heroes tourney down in Windsor and it was great
to see him again. He was also playing Orcs and Goblins and schooled me in the
proper use of Greenskin magic. He hurt me bad and ran down both Orc units with
his giant (even Grimgore and his Black Orcs)! It was great to play him again.
I think that makes our tally one draw and one ‘beatdown’. Next time
Chad!
I had a great time and I will be trying to make it to many more shows during
the Hall of Heroes season. I got to see Scott Ross and a number of regular tourney
players it is always nice to see (not to mention my fellow GW staff). Next time
I will use proxy models a little to play-test my final list! Thanks to everyone
for a great time and a great day!

So, we reach the end. The ‘Big Day’ fast approaches! I will be laying
in bed, dreaming of the battleforces! It looks like Christmas comes but twice
this year!
Seriously though, I have a wee bit to go till I’m done. I will be adding
the finishing touches to my Giant tonight, and texturing the movement tray of
my Black Orcs, so it looks ‘Uber’ sexy sitting next to the rest of
my Boyz. I have a little bit of envy to the lads who finished nice and quick
and got to lay back grinning at all of the rest of us sweating it out until the
last few days!
So, I am not sure how the rest of the group is doing. I hope they all got their
noses down to the grindstones and finished the challenge! Why you ask? The more
people at the tournament the better! I hope to see everyone out and playing games,
telling all the stories of how this all came to pass...
Oh! I even got a game in! My Orcs managed to do quite well with a normal Black
Orc Character, so we shall see if Grimgor or his twin (albeit less impressive)
brother shows up to fight instead.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the 2nd!
Orcs, Orcs, Orcs, Orcs....

Hmm...
Well, it looks like we are in the final week, and I still have some models to
finish.
I will be finishing my Doom Diver this week in the next two days and then putting
an effort into the remaining figures I need to paint. I am a little sad that
I won't finish with enough time to do any extra models and add to my list, but
with a little binge painting, who knows?
I really would like to get at least 1/2 of my Black Orcs done before next week
so I can focus on my Giant. He will be a center piece in the army and the second
of the new Giants I have in my collection. I originally planned to paint him
in tanned flesh, but I based my other Giant in snakebite so I think I will keep
them close enough that I can use them in either of my Chaos/Orc armies.
The next two days will have me doing a lot of painting. I might do a mid-week
update to keep you up to date on where I am!
Good luck everyone. I hope everyone finishes (but if not I’ll take Eldar
Battleforces if you please)!

Only the 17th?! Sweet!
Well after an all day painting session, I have finally finished those last Orc
boyz. In an ealier blog I said that this unit would take the most out of me,
and I was right, but now I am done!
After last weeks Kraatz bashing I finished my chariot crew and glued them in.
Maybe I should have just glued them to the base of the chariot? Chris is putting
his dragon lord on the base of the model because he "doesn't think he has
time" to convert it. I really need to start carrying around a tape recorder
with me! He will claim something silly I am sure, but you know the truth ladies
and gentlemen.
I will be playing some games in the store with my Orcs & Gobbos so come on
down to the Windsor store this Tuesday! Rumour has it that Chris might even have
the courage to showup! Come one, come all; see me pants Kraatz and his silly
little elves!
So, things seem to be motoring along. I should have a Battle standard finished
today or tomorrow, and then that only leaves
- Doom Diver
- Black Orcs
- Giant
I hope to have the Doom Diver finished next week for sure (if not the Black Orcs
too!). I can't wait for the tourney...and the free battleforce(s)!

So, in my last blog I said I would have only my Black Orcs left to do...
I have no idea what I was thinking.
I have finished my Shaman as well as the Orc regiment. Even Grimgor and the Chariot
are finished. I should have some pictures if the part timer remembers to e-mail
them to me.
However that still leaves:
- 24 Black Orcs
- Giant
- BSB (Battle Standard Bearer)
- Doom Diver
Nothing too great for the Millson to handle.
I have a painting schedule in mind and I keep steadily working away on my models.
I don't think I will be done
early. I don't think I will be done in anything resembling
record time. BUT I will finish before the deadline
and be at the tournament.
I think I will be painting the Doom Diver and the Battle Standard Bearer next
so I only have ‘two units’ left to paint, which should give me quite
the feeling of accomplishment.
All in all, I have been having a ton of fun, and I am remembering why I love
greenskins. All my recent Warhammer games have featured my Chaos army. I am sure
if I get a game or two in with my greenskins it will make me want to paint up
another unit of Goblins and some more Spiders Riders…
…
and a pair Spear Chukkas...
…
and another Giant...(insert a long list of everything greenskin)

Well with about a month to go, it is interesting to see who is done what. I must
admit I feel like I am falling behind, but some time spent painting this week
has put me back on track.
I finished my chariot and should have my Orc Boyz done by the end of the week.
Hopefully then I will be sitting easy with just the Black Orcs left to go. I
will post some pics of my progress soon, as I have finally snagged a digital
camera.
I tend to binge paint, so the crunch time’ which happens towards the end
of every painting contest should be no big deal. I'm not exactly counting my
battleforces yet, but I don't think I will need to book any vacation time as
some other people have done!
I have really had fun painting the greenskins, it has been a long time! I can't
wait to get them out on the table!

October 27, 2006
It’s already halfway to the deadline? It’s time I got in gear!
So, I didn't get much painting done this week but I did manage to get things
rolling in the "putting things together" department. Here is what I
did:
- basecoated Grimgor
- put together the rest of my Orc Boyz
- put together my Chariot
- put together my Battle Standard
- started work on my Black Orcs (still not sure what shields to use)
So by the end of this week I will have Grimgor and hopefully my Chariot done.
I will then probably start painting my Orc Boyz despite really wanting the quick
gratification of painting a regiment of Black Orcs.
I cannot fail the painting bet. I really don't want to buy the battleforces but
personal pride is the most important factor for me. I will be striving to do
some work every day on my models and spend some serious hours with a brush in
hand.
It has come to my attention that some people have been using these blogs to take
shots at other people rather than displaying their progress and talking about
the hobby in a mature fashion. Some have even threatened my goblins!
Now I could fire back with my own trash talk. I could take personal shots. But
I think I will take the higher road and keep it on the tabletop.
Or...kick them in the back when they aren't looking and blame it on someone else
(I am a Goblin).
Stay tuned for more next week!

Hmm, well not much done this week...
I bought my characters and my Black Orcs and got some modeling done, but time
spent with family and friends (first time seeing some after my move) used up
the majority of my time off.
I will be going into work early tommorow and plan on doing some character models
to get some quick returns and hopefully some pics of finished models this week.
After getting my own copy of the new Orcs & Goblins book, I think my list
could stand some tweaking. With Shiny Stuff (magic items) like "Mork's Spirit
Totem" you can really have a good magic defence without fielding tons of
Shamans to create dispel dice. In the future I will be much more one sided in
my character selection and probably drop one of the Shamans. Instead I will beef
up
the
amount
of models and take a nifty magic item or two.
Ah well, hind sight IS 20/20...and other more clever-er snappy endings to blogs.

PS. And my last name is MILLSON not Milson. Well, I guess it is Cory...so words
with less letters are always better...
October 11, 2006
Well another week down and some more work done. I finished the spiders and their
bases for my next unit, and tomorrow plan on finishing the riders.
It was really raining today in normally sunny Windsor, but magically the clouds
parted and gave me time to prime my models and get outside!
I bought a unit of orcs to start on them. I figure they will take the most time
to model and paint out of what I have left. I really want to do a good job on
them so better to get them out of the way now. With my move over, I am left with
some time to work and get painting. I should be fine but I will think about making
a painting schedule if things start getting close to the deadline. I should also
have some pics of me with my painted models while hugging Windsor's preview copy
of the new orc army book. I will try to get some more work in progress pictures
on a weekly basis. Well, that is it from me! Time to put on some old movies from
my collection and
get cutting, filing and gluing.
Finished:
1) 24 Night Goblins full command
2) 3 fanatics
3) Night Goblin Shaman
4) 5 spider riders minus the spiders
October 5, 2006
Well, I am sure all kinds of people have various excuses ready about why
they didn't get something finished...but not me! Despite moving (I now live
in Windsor) I managed to finish the rest of my goblin unit (4 models),
basecoat my Shaman and prime my fanatics. Not exactly leaps and bounds, but slow
and...well you know how it goes.
I am unsure if I will tackle another unit or do a single model next. For
anyone doing a painting contest like this, my personal tactic is to mix up
the big units by painting some single models in between to give yourself a
break from all that line painting. My chariot and Giant won't just add some
serious hitting power to my army, they will also give me a break from
painting green.
With myself now included, 3 of the staff of the Windsor GW store are now
involved in this event so please come by and offer your words of
encouragement (or if we haven't painted anything, offer cold reminders of the
price of failure)!
Next I believe I will finish my spider riders for the ongoing warbands
campaign in the store and thus have a playable army with two core choices,
all with the new goblin models! Take that dwarves, I'm coming for ya!

Painting Challenge? Horrible Consequences? I'm in!
I really like the idea of this challenge; especially because there is a tournament
at the end. This week I am focused on painting the Night Goblins in my army and
currently have 20 complete after I do a little basing. I will hopefully have
loads of awesome pictures next week to showcase my progress.
As we are on the topic of Nightgoblins (which is only a matter of time when it
comes to me) I orginally planned on making my entire army out of the little guys.
After a little bit of a look at the new Orcs + Goblins army book I found I couldn't
live without at least including some Orcs. The new rules are absolutely amazing
and really give them that extra jazz that they needed. I have been playing Goblins
(and exclusively goblins) for years now and the rules for choppas finally tipped
me over the edge!
To me there is nothing in the armybook which I am not excited to try out on the
battlefield! In the list I am painting for the bet I think I am suffering from
a distinct need for more boyz! Some play testing will answer my questions (so
I better get painting!) but really powerful singles models (like Grimgore and
a Giant) can tip the balance for me. If greenskins can't afford to spend 375
points on a single model who can?
