Greetings to all from the western front of the great Canadian empire!
At the time of writing this little editorial, my wife Christa and I have just welcomed our 5th son (that’s right 5 boys!)
While thinking of what to write, something comes to mind about how much I love to play.
Three of my older boys are playing now, but we just don’t get a lot of time to be able to play the big games.
It is at these times when we have a spare half-an-hour that we will make up a quick game, like a tank battle or character battle, maybe even a little Combat Patrol or Border Patrol should time allow.
Now don’t get me wrong I love the big games and the thrill of the competitive tournaments, but there is only so much time in our busy lives for these.
Then something else dawned on me while playing these games, they are a great way to learn the games and to test things out.
For example, if you wanted to see how good your new tank is at killing other tanks or how good your new unit of knights stands up to a charge from Black Orcs.
These lessons can be remembered and stored in the brain for the big games, after all, if you know those knights walked through the Orcs with ease then you would go after them first thing in the big games, but if they got owned then you would remember to give them a wide birth.
Another thing you tend to get from these types games when they are played in stores or during events like Games Day is you get to meet a whole bunch of people with the same interests in this great hobby as you.
You could even make some new friends.
When your local store puts on one of these events you should make sure to go, you will not be disappointed.
You could even see me there if you do say “Hi”.
Always remember when you don’t have time for that epic battle to decide the fate of the universe, then just try saying to your friend “My captain is tougher then yours and I am willing to prove it right now”.
P.S. For all you Moms and Dads out there I have to say, game with your kids, you’ll have loads of fun.
When you’re little sweet heart wipes you off the map and you played as hard as you could, you will be the happiest loser ever.
Good Dice to all
