Hiya.
My name's Travis, and I work at the Oshawa store. We started a painting bet a while ago between myself and a customer both doing a Witch Hunter Army. It soon developed into an in store painting bet in which you would have to buy 3 Baneblades for the winner. Now it has developed into Paint or Die. yikes! Although if 75+ people start asking us for three Baneblades, they will each meet a quiet end at the hands of Inquisitor Dracos and his ally, #87 "Leonidas".

Being that the battle tour will have hit the store by the time this hits the web page, they will have been finished, and photographed by the man Cory Burns, and shown to the world! We’re pro-stars here at the Shwa. I had not slept in 2 days.. time to hit the hay.
On to Paint or Die 2 ½! My lofty goal of two additional armies by the end of Paint or Die will not be forgotten! Next up: 500 pts. of LOTR Wild Men of Druadan! Kill me now! |
So, where I can through this, I’m working on my Paint or Die army! Why Why WHY don’t I compromise standards where Paint or Die armies are concerned!? This was stupid! But at the end of the night, with me sweating bullets and my models at stage one highlighting and the ink drying on their sanded bases, my collective co-workers agreed: with how much I had done, the models were as finished as they needed to be, and the day was the best the store had ever had. I could go home, satisfied that I had finished. I was unhappy, because the models were not up to my standard. So I immediately brought them home to touch them up. |
But it was done! Lo and behold! In one hard-core, all-night painting session with Damon Ka Ho Luk (y’know… the diligent writer of Paint or Die blogs) he smashed his Paint or Die army (what do you MEAN you usually make the wax on purity seals part of the armour??) and I smashed my models for the apocalypse event. Now, that being said, OUR Paint or Die armies were due the next day (by that I mean, the END of next day. Ha-ha! Midnight madness.) So the event was a hit, with Mad Grox in the morning, having two teams battle it out between the two armies to determine who got the first shot at the Grox table. After two rounds, they each had rules assigned to their vehicles and battled it out, we had a formation battle for the veterans that went exceedingly well, and finally had the store’s first Apocalypse game, where we had 7 people play it out with great results. We had an armorcast shadowsword, a warhound titan, three baneblades, a marauder bomber, and a pair of thunderbolt fighters. The devastation was a sight to behold. |
Wow. I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I was absorbed entirely with the voracious task of preparing for the Apocalypse release party. The unfortunate truth about that was that I committed to getting two of my armies up to apocalypse standards for the bloody thing… I wanted to run demo games with them! Hence, I needed to finish about 1500 pts of Tau (for the most part… they weren’t exactly up to my standard...) and, well, the wings on an Eldar phantom titan.

Well, with a tremendous amount of work done (that being precious little) I am off to the races. It's not really painter's block so much as the need for other things to get done. The downside of having to paint up my army for October 13th as opposed to the regular finish time is that the paint bet needs to be finished on top of the things we need done for Apocalypse. I need two solid armies finished up for that time, including my Tau. I've been buying up models to bolster their numbers tremendously, with 120 fire warriors and then some. I need to have them finished (despite an easy paint scheme) for the same date, as well as additions to my Eldar army. I need to have them ready for our Apocalypse release party. I get to use Eldar titans against my Interdiction forces and Rapid Insertion forces! BAM!
Bringing me to my next point: the store baneblade. This took up a good chunk of my time, although it did me proud with my airbrush, spot painting with the 375th Death Korps of Krieg Plasma Storm camouflage from the website. Check it out.. 40K, Imperial Guard, Tank Camo Schemes..375th. It's cool. Also painting each rivet on the thing was a nightmare. I'm seeing rivets in my sleep... Carl from the Scarborough store tells me that there are over 200 rivets on the turrets alone. I didn't bother to count.. only to go blind.
I'm sure I'll end up in my basement for a week straight with a mask covering my paint-stained face, hissing at the light, shouting "Don't bother me, I'm painting!" and playing an organ. |
Okay. So now I'm ready to kick it into third. I've finished organizing the models.. I still need a few backpacks, but I can order those as I need them. Though I also need a few more sisters, I have arranged what I have into one of the two troops choices (leaving what I have already finished, aside from the flamer dominions, their one immolator and one heavy bolter girl to the second troops choice), a second dominion squad with melta-sisters, a cool veteran sister superior with a power mace, and their immolator with multi-meltas. I also arranged my celestians and my characters.
Speaking of which, my canoness is going to be one of the coolest models.. she's been built with an inferno pistol in her aiming hand and a blessed weapon out behind her that is using the Empire general mace. Mmm... power maul. I think I'll name it the "Maul of Justice". Tasty.
I also built my excorcist. What a godawful experience THAT was. They don't exactly do instructions for that model anymore... pictures on the internet, tools, patience and a few prayers to the machine god managed to see it built Ford tough, though. The crowning achievement is that the rapturous sister that plays the keyboard I ended up removing (being that I'm not into rapture--I'm into devine deliverance of fist to face negotiations, leaving rapture to noise marines). I replaced her with a skeleton model I converted heavily with green stuff to make Ed the Head from Iron Maiden standing and hammering on the keys. Hence the name, the "Lord Edward's Revenge."
Bam. |
