JUSTIN DOYLE - SURREY
DARK ANGELS
Place Holder
COMPLETE

Hey all

I’m Justin Doyle. I have chosen to build up 1700 points of the fallen Angels (i.e. Dark Angels). My Chapter is called ‘The Sons of Luther’. This will get my ‘Fallen’ up to about 4000 points. I’ll be ready for Apocalypse.

WEEK 12

Paint or Die - the Final Death Rattle?

I have NOT finished my army. I have not won ONE single game; in fact, I have only played the two that I reported on week 8. If your next question is what I have been doing with my time, I would have to say NOTHING. Fortunately that puts me well ahead of Ryan Z. Cory next year I want my chance of success at least a percentage higher than Ryan’s. At least I have sent in some proof of progress.

Speaking of progress reports, I see the Hukish has finished painting the most beautiful regiment of Dwarves I have ever feasted my eyes on. The impressive thing is that it is a block of 20 models, and that is almost exactly half of the model count of his elder army. What a showman! He mocks the struggles people are having with this contest by completing other projects first. Just remember senor Hukish mighty Casey swung and missed when the last pitch was thrown.

So, it’s now every ones favorite time, throw down time. My finger is wagging and it’s wagging at YOU the lower mainland gamer. There is a Hall of Heroes tournament to be held in my honor. The date is December 1st. The time, we start at 9:30am. The place, GW Surrey. I know there isn’t a single player out there that has a chance of destroying me on the field of battle, but in my infinite benevolence I will give people the chance to at least deploy their army in my presence. Shiun, and Jen will also be there.

WEEK 8

“I felt a Disturbance in the force”

Greetings Paint or die fans. What’s new this week you ask? I see grim, grim things in my future. Painting wise I am not doing to badly. I finished my Land speeder. With this great accomplishment I bring my grand total of completed up to a whooping 685 pts. I have also 15 marines finished, but they are currently without bolters so they will not count for the moment.  I’ll just keep plugging away.

I had a run in with Jesse Thompson last week. Apparently he is not from Surrey. Actually he emphatically stated that he was/is NOT from Surrey. Well I just had to see what he meant by this ambiguous statement. I called GW Victoria and had a frank little chat with Jesse. After much weeping, and some strong language I collected myself. It was all a misunderstanding, the reason for Jesse’s declaration was that the paint or die site listed him as from Surrey.

For the record I am in training. I have to say my army is not fairing to well. I have a strong record of 0-2 to start off my training. First game was against the grey knight, Mr. Sinister himself Kevin McGill. He proceeded to kill my models hand over fist. What did not go down because of shooting, and more shooting, was run over by the sheer volume of ‘Big Gun Dice’ he was lobbing across the table. My next loss was to my Boss Dave Clark. Seeing that my performance review is still pending I would just like to say that there were no instances of dubious dice rolling.  His command of his forces left no room for luck. Frankly speaking it was one of those games where I was kicking his tail across the table, then turn six rolled around and I looked and I lost. Go figure.

What has this to do with paint or die? Have you forgotten my grudge match against this man. A man so vile his frightens children and street performers. I am so repulsed I cannot even bring myself to utter his name. A man I will dub El Terrabla. I have a wager with this lout (feeling chances of career fading). The penalty for losing to this man is huge. I promised that I would by the man drinks, or I said I would buy his drinks. This is scaring the bajesus out of me. For if I promised the second I will be buying all of his drinks. Look at El Terrabla. He looks like he could drink Mexico dry of Tequila. The first way of stating the wager I only owe him a couple of drinks, much, much easier on the wallet. What this means is that I must train harder.

I am absolutely amazed by the progress of the Hukish. All he needs is another couple of layers of paint, can I suggest exactly three, and he’s done. The Hukish will not disappoint. I really couldn’t imagine him failing seeing that he is so close to finishing. You may as well phone it in. The Hukish ROCKS!

WEEK 7

Apocalyptic Painting Freeze.

Hey paint or die fans. This week’s blog is going to be somewhat different from all the others. Namely I have no gripes with anybody this week. With the release of Apocalypse I have been spending my time on other things. Most notably I have been buying all sorts of new shiny awsomeness rather than diligently painting my paint or die Marines. I have also realized that the Marine Company is the most dominant thing in the game now, therefore and I must complete my company (Cackling with delight). Careful Planning is just too good to overlook. Team it up with flank march and you have one angry Jay Griffiths.

Over the last two weeks I have managed to paint a little. I have almost completed 15 Marines and my Land Speeder. This would bring my total points painted up to 1010 pts.

There is a problem thought. High Elves are being released next month and my High Elf army is begging to be added to, namely that new beast of a dragon. I better get finished my Marines before the 10th of November or I could be in big trouble.

Could this be the start of a national day of mourning?
Whirlwinds

“It’s hard being pretty, pretty close to being done suckaz”

I have to say week four, and parts of five, were bad. Yes I know what you the reader, my readers are thinking “Justin you’re much too talented, respected and handsome to let a little contest get you down”. I just want to say even heroes have the right to bleed. I think that was in a song or a book or something, what ever. I have quoted it, I have touched it with my genus and now it is destined for eternity because I have honored it with a mention.

I died last week (picture above) in the process of painting my whirlwinds. The stress of painting, coupled with the stress of threats heard across the country, defeated me for a moment. I don’t know if you can tell by his picture but Jay Griffiths is a big guy! Unlike anyone from out east I have taunted before, this man can actually afford a plane ticket with the sole intention to kick my butt. Amidst contemplating this fact I then heard a loud crack, and then the world went black (rhyme intended). But, like the mighty house cat, or Super Mario, I was destined to have more than one life.

I have gotten back up my friends. I have a new disdain for all others, and I will destroy the competition. I finished my whirlwinds, and have gotten a good start on the remainder of my marines. I just want to say “Jay just in case you’re thinking of doing anything funny, I just want you to know I have been hanging out with my friend Louie, from Louisville, a lot lately”.

Am I done? Nope. Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. Your blog is pretty humble. I almost felt bad for you. Oh wait!!! Weren’t you the guy that called me late last August threatening me and bragging how you have everything built? Weren’t you the guy that sent belittling e-mails to me about my alma mater? I guess they didn’t teach you to work [EDITED BY MARK McKELLAR] too.

Shiun after three long weeks we finally hear from you. If you haven’t perused his blog yet here’s the gist. Hi I’m Shiun it took me three weeks to prime my guys, but hat’s o.k. because some random dude I met taught me how to paint fast. Well I hope Obi-wan is a good teacher because from where I’m sitting I like my chances at the free Baneblade. On the upside you can just come to the shop and buy one from us here in Surrey that way you don’t have to pay shipping and handling. Hey if you give up now and by one the 13th or 14th you get a draw for each Baneblade you buy. That’s right people. For every Apocalypse item you buy on those two days you receive one draw ticket. The person we draw gets a free space marine company. If you buy the Apocalypse rulebook at the midnight release party you will receive 2 draw tickets for the book instead of one.

As always I will finish off with my praises of hobby notables. Ahhh Hukish I feel like one of those kids from super hero movies that is having his faith tested. Are you really going to let Dave Noyle talk to you like that? The Hukish I have read over the years would have bashed his skull in with a rock ages ago. If not for me do it for mittens.

Shout outs as promised: Devin, James, Jason and everyone else at West Coast mayhem that recognized me and wanted to talk about the paint or die. A big Shout out to Thor and Crew for running a great event. West Coast Mayhem was awesome those that missed it, missed out. Next year will be bigger and better I no it. If you thought that my performance was loud and crazy at this one wait until I come back as the wizened veteran next year. A very special Shout out to the Vancouver Grey Knight Kevin McGill.

Kid Kindness

WEEK 3

Week 3 “What a Week”

This was the week I was going to get things done. I spent eight hours Tuesday and Wednesday on my marines. I put up some pictures for all my peeps. I have finished 15 out of around 50 models.

Now that the itemization side of my blog is through I will get to the gripe, or as I love to think of it “what’s weak this week”. I have to say the HQ guys are really starting to put on the pressure. No, no it wasn’t Burns, or Zuwelski ([sp?] oh god it must have been the 6th grade before this kid spelt his name right). My friends! Evil this week comes in a much more sultry package, and its name is Jay Griffiths. I must say I hve never heard the word fired directed at me so much. This guy (lets get this right in totem pole standings), my boss’s, boss’s boss thinks he can give me (ME!!!) a call and try to scare me away from a challenge. Who do you think made the challenge poster. I’ll see you on the 30th of November.

On a completely unrelated note this week has been filled with saboteurs. I bought a brand new brush set that was promptly manhandled to the point of destruction within a week by others, not myself. Also, one painter dry brushed red paint splatters all over my marines. However, the GW paint table has always been a war zone so it comes with the territory. What did catch my attention is a lot more people in my store had the twang of an Ontarian accent. Am I accusing the HQ staff of a misdeed, or any of the competitors of sabotage? No I am not… yet. I just want these fine, outstanding GW employees to know is, that I am aware of these anomalies.

Shout outs to Hukish I miss the insightful delving into our hobby that was you letters to the Hukish. Oh my god!!! McLovin’ is rocking the paint or die. I have to say I am a big fan of Arles Pollard!

Finally Mark your next!! My Fallen Angels will have the cold-blooded hearts of salamanders by months end.

Yours Truly,
Kid Kindness

Week 2 or is it 1?

First and foremost I would like to give a big ol’ shout out to the Gamerz in Surrey. The Battle for the Board was the coolest event I have ever been a part of…[besides this one].

As for progress, I have almost completed my Land Speeder and Whirlwinds. My Razorbacks are nearly completed. I am just waiting for two Heavy Bolter sprues that I ordered from Direct Services. So I guess that really only leaves two Rhinos to be completed.

What an event. I would just like my public to know that I will finish my army with a100% chance of completion. Cor-n-y Burns was not impressed by my initial post and that’s why I am placed at 0%. He even got his goon Ryan Z to call me at work to threaten me. I will not waver, I will not buckle under the pressure of the Bourgeoisie. They are just afraid of the real power of the working class. So, if you aren’t too afraid of getting your white collars dirty, I am all for meeting up with you and throwing down the gauntlets (or in your cases, purses). Next time you thugs are in the area let’s rumble. I’ll kick your butt…at 40k.

Of interest to wrestling fans…. I am all set up for a Mask Match against Jay Griffiths. The stakes are high, much higher than the normal bragging rights we cherish. If I win I will gain the right to unmask him and post pictures here for my public.

Hukish you’re still the man. Darren Lyall, you too have bought yourself into the Circle of Trust; thanks for the Dark Angel bits

WEEK 1

Hey all, I’m Justin Doyle. I have chosen to build up 1700 points of the fallen Angels (i.e. Dark Angels). My Chapter is called ‘The Sons of Luther’. This will get my ‘Fallen’ up to about 4000 points. I’ll be ready for Apocalypse.

I am representing the Surrey store in this little toss up. The primary reason I am doing this is because all those White Collar Retail Bigwigs were getting cocky behind their big shiny desks… plus they called me a sissy. However, just like Marty Mc Fly, I have gotten myself into a situation I don’t want to be in. No, it’s not a time traveling adventure. I guarantee that come close to December time will be going much faster than I will want it to.

I just want to spend a little time now posturing. I will finish my army. I will be receiving Baneblades from those chumps who don’t, I’m looking at you Guard and ‘Nid players. I figure you guys should look into sending all my Baneblades to me at once and save on the postage.

I am a veteran of the Surrey store ‘Paint or Die’. I painted up a ‘Men-at-Arms’ heavy Bretonnian list in three months, while going to school, and working full-time at the Surrey store. So, marines are going to be a cakewalk.

There is one person that will be spared from my wrath. Mr. Hukish, keep on fighting the good fight.
