BRINGING THE HOBBY TO THE PEOPLE
Miniature wargaming is a vast and engrossing hobby. With so many exciting avenues to pursue new hobbyists really benefit from a basic introduction to our games. The techniques and tools listed below are often used in our own chain of Hobby Centres to teach people about the world of hobby games. These activities are designed to be quick and fun, you might want to try some or all of these in your own store.
INTRO GAMES
Introductory games are fun, fast and furious demonstrations of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 or The Lord of the Rings. Each of these games has an introductory starter set (Battle for Skull Pass, The Battle for Macragge and The Mines of Moria respectively) that can be used to demonstrate the game to interested hobbyists. This works best if the models are painted and displayed prominently in your store on a finished gaming table.
When running a Demo Game ask the customer(s) to choose a side on the table top and run them through a quick battle using the basic rules of the game in question.
Here are some tips to remember…
- Keep it short! Play a couple of quick turns.
- You are the coach, explain the game and let the players make the choices
- Use evocative language to paint a picture of the battle (the rattle of gunfire, the ringing clash of steel on steel… etc)
- Don’t go into too much depth with the rules. The demo should be a fast and furious sample of the full game experience.
