It is a perilous
time in the history of the Imperial world Lochtelli
I. It’s inhabitants
have long lived toiling to fill the food demands of nearby
Imperial worlds from the bounty of Lochtelli I’s
vast seas. Now the banquet of Lochtelli I has attracted
the appetite of an even more voracious beast, the Tyranids
have brought death and terror to the table.
The fight is not without hope; nearby Imperial forces
have rushed to the aid of this key planet. With the invasion
in
it’s early stages the Tyranids can be fought off
with enough determination.
The world of Lochtelli I is largely covered in vast seas
that are the planet’s greatest asset. The people
ply a living from the seas through food harvesting and
sea farming.
Large pumping platforms throughout the seas drive the thriving
fuel industry of Lochtelli I. With resources such as these
it is obvious why the Imperium is so quick to defend this
embattled world.
Prior to invasion the only unrest known on Lochtelli I
came as a result of raiding by small pirate bands. The
local authorities
made a regular practice of hunting these rogues with vigor.
Serious trouble first arouse on Lochtelli I as a result
of the emergence of the ‘Free Swords’ pirate band.
This group proved to be better armed and more organized that
most of their predecessors and gained control of a large
expanse of sea. The band seized control of multiple pumping
platforms and converted them for use as docks for their fleet.
The trouble was only exasperated when portions of Lochtelli
I’s Planetary Defense Force through their lot in
with the pirates. The problem was on the verge of developing
into
rebellion when a Tyranid Hive fleet appeared at the edge
of the Lochtelli system.
This event prompted the ‘Free Swords’ to finally
reveal themselves as a Genestealer Cult, and the cause
of this new disaster.
Lochtelli’s fate may well have been sealed if not for
the competence of it’s governing body. The Imperial
Governor immediately dispatched a system patrol craft with
an Astropath aboard to summon aid. In the meantime all
able-bodied citizens were armed and instructed to defend
the cities with
their lives. It was only through this swift action that
hope for Lochtelli remained.
Neighbouring Imperial forces were sent to Lochtelli I’s
defense and have managed to slow the Tyranid advance. Regiments
of Imperial Guard and ships from the Imperial Navy have engaged
the Xenos on both land and in space. Defense of this primarily
aquatic world has proven to be difficult as the aliens have
adapted to Lochtelli I’s watery environment and have
used this to their advantage. It is likely that the defense
will fail if additional help does not arrive soon.
It is fortunate that Marshal Titus has dispatched Black
Templars to Lochtelli I as a part of his great crusade.
Although few
in number it is possible that Astartes may prove to be
the factor that tips this struggle back into the Imperial’s
favour.
When playing battles in the Lochtelli
I battle zone you may opt to use the following special
rules if both players agree. These rules are intended to
add a measure of campaign flavour to your games of Warhammer
40,000.
Temperamental Climate
The activities of the Tyranids has begun to play havoc
with the natural weather systems of Lochtelli I. Violent
storms whip through the skies adding to the devastation
caused by the invaders. Anyone foolhardy enough to be caught
outside during one of these storms runs the risk of falling
victim to the elements.
At the start of each players turn roll a dice, if the result
is a 4 or greater a great bolt of lightning descends from
the heavens onto the battlefield. The player whose turn
it is may place a Large Blast Template anywhere on the
table. After the template has been placed the player must
then roll a scatter dice and 3d6 to determine the final
location of the lightning strike. If a hit is rolled the
bolt strikes where the template was originally placed.
Any model directly under the hole in the centre of the
template takes a Strength 8 AP 2 hit. All other models
under the template take a Strength 4 AP 6 hit. All models
hit must test for pinning.
